Pascoag Utility District

Reading Your Electric Bill

Commercial & Industrial Customers

  1. Account Number - This is your personal identification number that Pascoag Utility District uses to identify your service location.
  2. Billing Date - This is the date your bill was processed.
  3. Due Date - This is the date that the total amount due on your account must be paid by. Please keep in mind that all bills are due 15 days after the bill is processed.
  4. Customer Charge - The basic cost of providing service, such as metering, meter reading and billing. These fixed costs are unaffected by the actual amount of electricity you use.
  5. Demand - The demand is measured in Kilowatts. This is the measurement of the capacity or rate at which you use the energy. The monthly demand for which you are billed is based on the highest peak of energy which you hit. You pay that amount per month for the next eleven months at which time another peak is established.
  6. Power Factor - Is the extent to which you are using your power effectively. A commercial or industrial customer is charged when they have a Power Factor of 90% or less.
  7. Transition Charge - Prior to electric deregulation, Pascoag entered into a purchase power agreement for a unit entitlement of the Seabrook Nuclear Unit. This contract extends through 2020. It is the cost of energy and capacity from this plant that relates to Pascoag’s Transition Charge.
  8. Transmission Charge - The cost of getting electricity from the generating station to Pascoag’s sub-station.
  9. Conservation Charge - This cost, an assessment of all kilowatt-hours sold is used to fund Pascoag’s conservation programs. Programs offered include appliance and window rebates, incentives for installing Energy Star heating equipment, free home energy audits, lighting and heating incentives for commercial customers and many other programs.
  10. Renewable Energy - The cost to fund Renewable Energy Projects. This money is forwarded to the State of Rhode Island.
  11. Total Electric - The sum of all electricity that was consumed in dollar amount.
  12. Standard Offer - The charge for Pascoag Electric to provide energy to its customers. This is the portion of the bill that customers can “shop” for. For a complete listing of Non-Regulated Power Producers, please visit the Rhode Island Public Utilities Commissioner’s website at www.ripuc.org.
  13. State Sales Tax - Sales tax is charged to all commercial and industrial customers unless they provide documentation stating they are tax exempt.
  14. Compare Your Usage - This section compares your current month’s usage to what it was at the same time last year.
  15. Payment Slip - This is the portion of the bill that is detached and mailed in with the check. It is important to mail your slip with your check so PUD knows which account to apply the check to.

If you have any questions on your electric bill, call the District office during normal business hours to speak with a Customer Service Representative.
