The Jesse Smith Memorial Library in conjunction with Burrillville Recycling and the Pascoag Utility District encourage students in grades K-6 to create Earth Day Posters depicting why it is important to recycle and conserve energy in Burrillville. A total of twelve winning posters are chosen each year to be part of a calendar which contains energy conservation and recycling tips. Pascoag Utility partners with Steere Farm Elementary School’s 4th grade classes each year, to create a field trip to the District campus. 4th graders now visit the District each February to learn about how electricity is produced, the role of public power in their community and the importance of conserving electricity. Staff members also visit their classroom to speak during their electrical circuits unit.

Green Festival

For the past thirteen years, the Pascoag Utility District has held a Green Festival in honor of Public Power Week during the month of September.
The Festival has something for everyone! You can learn about local products and ideas that will help you conserve energy and create a more sustainable lifestyle. There’s always free crafts, face painting and bucket truck rides for children.

Each year the Festival offers something different than the year before. Visit our website in August for information on what the Green Festival will bring this year!

Bringing Electric Charging Stations to Burrillville

Pascoag Utility District worked with the Town of Burrillville and RIOER to install 4 electric vehicle charging stations in Burrillville. The charging stations are located at the park near Jesse Smith Library in Harrisville and at the bottom of the bike path in Pascoag. RIOER provided the Town of Burrillville with a grant of $63,660 for the installation of the charging stations and the lease of an electric vehicle. Pascoag Utility District and Burrillville’s Department of Public Works donated the labor for the project.

Holiday Lighting Project

Each year the Pascoag Utility District in coordination with Harrisville and Pascoag Fire Departments, donate their time and staff to put up the holiday lights that hang through the villages of Harrisville and Pascoag during December.

The District donates the electricity to power the lights. In 2009 Pascoag and Harrisville Fire Departments purchased new LED lights to replace the incandescent ones. The incandescent lights cost over $600.00 to power over the holiday season. The new LED lights cost just over $20.00! This is truly something to think about when you go to purchase lights.
